Signs

  • Invite support: Include a clear call-to-action like “Honk to share support!”
  • Icons & contrast: Use simple graphics (car horn, raised fist, soundwaves) and high-contrast colors so your message reads at a glance.
  • Quick sign-making:
    1. Cut 18 × 24 in cardboard.
    2. Layer bright construction paper on top and reinforce edges with clear packing tape.
    3. Attach a wooden dowel or PVC pole centered on the back; wrap tape around the joint for strength.
    4. (Optional) Sleeve sign in a clear plastic cover.

Prep & Safety

  • Hydration & snacks: Bring water and easy-to-eat fuel to keep energy up.
  • Weather & dress: Check the forecast. Wear layers, rain gear or sunscreen, sturdy shoes, and a hat as needed.
  • Team setup:
    • 2–3 people per group for mutual support.
    • If you’re part of a larger turnout, split into mini-teams at different map locations.
  • You might consider bringing:
    • Fully charged phone + power bank
    • Basic first-aid supplies
    • Body cam or recording app on your phone

Tips

  • Timing: Try to stay out for no more than 90 minutes at a time, and less during inclement weather.
  • Engagement: Match every honk or cheer—thumbs-up, fist pump, or a loud shout of support to match their energy.
  • Confrontation: If someone approaches aggressively, place your sign between you and them and remain silent. They’ll draw attention to themselves while you stand firm.
  • Visibility: Keep your sign fully on the sidewalk—never block traffic or lean into the street.
  • Crossing: when crossing the street, make sure to focus on safety. Don’t worry about visibility or encouraging engagement until you are safe.
